Located in the heart of Reykjavík, Vatnsstígur 4 is the flagship of Reykjavík Residence Hotel, a collection of ten historic houses across the city. The project combines contemporary design with Reykjavík’s architectural heritage, creating a distinctive hotel experience that celebrates the relationship between past and present.
A historic house dating back to 1916, once fallen into ruin, was carefully restored and integrated into the new development. Now serving as the hotel's main entrance, the original building establishes a meaningful connection between the city's architectural history and the contemporary extension.
The interiors evoke understated luxury through rich materials, deep tones, decorative wallpapers and elegant wall panelling. Velvet, leather and layered lighting introduce warmth, depth and sophistication. All furniture was custom-designed exclusively for the project, creating a cohesive aesthetic and distinctive identity throughout. The result is a timeless interior that balances historic character with contemporary elegance.
